| Access Information: | Access is available to current and former Appointees of Villa I Tatti; the library also welcomes other post-graduate scholars holding a Master's degree or its equivalent. Exceptions may be made on written request. Scholars who have not been I Tatti Appointees are requested to present a letter of introduction, or, if a university faculty member, valid identification. |
| Circulation Policy: | Non-circulating; all materials must be consulted within the library. Current Appointees may sign out published materials to their studies, and other readers to carrels or tables. |
| Holdings Description: | Summary description of collection: The Biblioteca Berenson is a research library with extensive collections of published materials in all fields related to late medieval and Renaissance Italy and an important collection of visual materials mainly on Renaissance Italian art.
Size of collection: Approximately 150,000 volumes, over 500 active periodical titles, 37,000 microforms, 700 sound recordings, 300,000 photographs, 15,000 art auction catalogs.
Expanded description of collection: The collection focuses on the history, fine and applied arts, music, literature, science, religion, and philosophy of Italy from circa 1200 to 1650, with substantial sections in related areas of classical studies, medieval studies, the Mediterranean region, and Renaissance Europe. Special collections include the Morrill Music Library, with a large collection of published scores and early music manuscripts on microfilm; the Berenson Fototeca, especially strong on Italian painting and drawing from 1300 to 1550; the Oriental and Islamic Collection, centered on archaeology and the fine arts; some 15,000 art auction catalogues dating from the early nineteenth century and covering a wide range of fields. The Archive preserves the papers and correspondence of Bernard and Mary Berenson, in addition to papers of Giorgio Castellani, Kenneth Clark, Andrea Francalanci, Frederick Hartt, Giuseppe Marchini, Emilio Marcucci, Nicky Mariano, Roberto and Livia Papini, Valeria Piacentini, Stanislaus Eric Stenbock, and extensive documents of the Committee to Rescue Italian Art (1966).

| Services: | Equipment and facilities available: Cassette player, CD-audio player, slide projector/table/viewer, overhead projector, several microform readers and printers, a microform scanner-printer, a scanner, black-and-white photocopiers (card or code operated).
ILL Policy: The library does not lend to Harvard or other libraries, but will provide photocopies or electronic documents. The library borrows materials for current I Tatti Appointees only.
