(3) EXTERNAL ILL POLICY: NON-HARVARD: The library does not lend to non-Harvard libraries. (4) ILL BORROWING POLICY: The Grossman Library borrows for course reserves from the Widener, Fine Arts, and Tozzer Libraries.
Holdings Description:(1) SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTION: Reserve books and articles for approximately 300 Extension courses; a general collection of over 6,000 monographs in the major academic fields of study. Extension School masters (A.L.M.) theses for the five previous years are also available; prior years available in the Harvard Archives. (2) SIZE OF COLLECTION: 6,000+ monographs; 388 Extension School Master's (A.L.M.) theses; over 500 reference volumes (encyclopedias and dictionaries). (3) EXPANDED DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTION: The library provides reserve books and articles for approximately 300 Extension courses each academic year. The general collection has been assembled from faculty reserve requests over the 23-year life of the library. All major categories for the Library of Congress Classification System are represented in the collection. The library has a diverse reference section of over 500 volumes and holds Extension School masters (A.L.M.) theses dating from 5 years previous to the current year; earlier theses are held in Harvard University Archives in Pusey Library. All Grossman Library holdings are listed in HOLLIS. (4) COURSE RESERVES: All course reserve materials are listed alphabetically by instructors' last names in binders at the desk. One book or three articles may be borrowed at a time. A current picture ID is required. A.L.M. theses and thesis proposals are also on reserve at the desk and are listed alphabetically by field of study and author in separate binders. Reserve request forms are mailed to faculty well in advance of the fall and spring terms and should be returned by the date indicated of the form. Because of the large number of courses held on reserve it is very important to provide the small Grossman staff as much time as possible to respond to requests. In a typical academic year, reserve books and articles total over 3,000 items, including over 700 volumes acquired through interlibrary loan. Personal copies of reserve books are welcome.
Services:GROSSMAN LIBRARY RESOURCE CENTER: (1) COMPUTERS: The Grossman Library provides 22 Windows pcs and 2 Mac computers for student use. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. (2) PHOTOCOPIER: Two photocopiers (coin- and card-operated) are available for use in the library. Each copy costs $0.10, and change may be obtained at the front desk. Students may purchase a copy card at a charge of $11.00 for 100 copies or $20.00 for 200 copies (charge includes $1.00 for the card itself). Additional value can be added to the card when the original amount has been expended. The photocopier will not accept any other copy card except the Grossman card (i.e. it does not accept Crimson Cash).
