Access Information:

The CES Library is open to the public and maintains open stacks. Borrowing privileges are available to everyone.

Circulation Policy:

The circulating portion of the library includes all monographs and some uncataloged materials such as dissertations of former Center affiliates. Non-circulating materials include all periodicals, newspapers, reference books.

Holdings Description:

Summary description of collection: The CES Library is a small library providing basic monographs, journals and newspapers for the study of the history, culture, politics and sociology of modern Europe.

Back issues of daily newspapers - 2-3 weeks

Size of collection: 13,000 monographs; 87 periodicals.

Expanded description of collection: The CES Library attempts to provide students and faculty with a representative sample of the major monographs dealing with modern Europe since approximately the French Revolution. It also maintains collections, space permitting, of the most important periodicals in the field. Focus includes history, culture, sociology, politics, and economics. Because of the library's small size, emphasis is placed on basic monographs on widely-studied themes, and topics of excessive specialization are avoided. There is also certain but by no means exclusive emphasis on the post-1945 period.

Services:

Internal ILL Policy: HARVARD: The CES Library will lend all monographs for three weeks without charge and allows renewals. Books are subject to recall for reserve. Phone requests are accepted.

External ILL Policy: NON-HARVARD: The CES Library does not lend to non-Harvard libraries. Call: (617)495-4303.
