Access Information:Harvard students, faculty, and staff have access to the CRL collections through interlibrary loan. The CRL Reading Room is open to Harvard researchers visiting in Chicago who require access to materials from the Center’s collections. Contact the Reading Room Coordinator (ext. 347) or the Access Service Department (ext. 313 or 314) at least 3 business days in advance of your anticipated visit, in order to request titles to be paged to the Reading Room. Within two working days, the Reading Room Coordinator will contact you to report on the availability of the materials and to set up an appointment. The use of the Reading Room is free to students, faculty, and staff from Harvard and other CRL member institutions. There is a daily request fee for individuals who are not faculty, students or staff at a member institution
Circulation Policy:CRL circulates material by interlibrary loan. Harvard interlibrary loan offices, and interlibrary loan offices of other member institutions, may borrow any quantity and format of material from the CRL collection. The loan period is for three months with unlimited renewals. All loans, however, may be recalled after two weeks use if requested by another member.
Holdings Description:CRL holds over four million newspapers, journals, dissertations, archives, government publications and other traditional and digital resources for research and teaching. Holdings include such diverse materials as 800,000 foreign doctoral dissertations (including those of Albert Einstein, Dag Hammarskjold and other Nobel laureates), 6000 foreign newspapers, some of the earliest African-American newspapers, and the 100,000-plus-page archive of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge security force.
